Diana Schlüssler recommends:
My recommendation is the Pilatus, our local mountain. Mystical and shrouded in legend, it is an experience at any time of year.
If you would like to get to know our local mountain from all sides in just one day, take the golden round trip: by boat to Alpnachstad, from there take the steepest cogwheel railroad in Europe to the summit and on the other side take the gondolas back down to Kriens. The return journey by bus takes just 15 minutes and you are back at our own funicular, the shortest in Switzerland.
If you prefer something a little more sporty, take the Drachenweg, a short path that leads through and around the mountain, with a few steps and steeper sections. Or you can climb the donkey in summer and the head in winter via steep steps and narrow paths.
If you are traveling with children, then a stop at Fräkmüntegg is definitely worthwhile. There is pure adventure there, with a high ropes course, the dragon glider and treetop path. Suitable for anyone between the ages of 5 and 15 and those who are young at heart. Small children will find a great adventure playground at Krienseregg.
For hiking enthusiasts, the Pilatus offers countless possibilities, from family hikes to barrier-free hiking and alpine hiking. There are also guided hikes, night hikes, ibex safaris and much more!
My culinary insider tip for the winter is the “Raclette à discretion” offer in the Krienseregg restaurant. And in summer, barbecue yourself on the Drachenalp on Fräkmüntegg. Or would you prefer a fine dinner in the rustic gourmet restaurant “Artstätte”?
Mount Pilatus, Lucerne’s “own” mountain which reaches a height of 2,128 metres above sea level, provides a breath-taking view over Lake Lucerne and central Switzerland.
The mountain itself and it’s surroundings offer a whole range of both summer and winter activities: Hiking, climbing, biking, concerts, eating, history... An experience in itself: Starting from Alpnach you can take the world’s steepest cog railway with an incline of 48 percent and reach the peak in 30 minutes.
